Default Iraq's civil war begins 2017-

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Despite the ceasefire announced between Iraqi Shia militia Hashd al-Shaabi and Kurdish Peshmerga in Khurmatu, the militia set fire to Kurdish houses on Monday.

On Sunday, clashes intensified between Hashd al-Shaabi and Peshmerga forces in the town of Khurmatu, located in the southern part of Kirkuk Province.

On Monday, the militia burned three Kurdish houses in Khurmatu despite the ceasefire announced the day before.

According to the latest update from Kurdistan24 reporter Hemin Dallo, five Peshmerga, including Khurmatu youths, have been killed, and five were wounded while about 12 Hashd al-Shaabi militiamen have been killed, and over 20 wounded.

The clashes started on Saturday evening when a militiaman threw a grenade at a Peshmerga house in the town.

Peshmerga and Kurdish youths in Khurmatu advanced in the town and controlled more than four bases belonging to the Shia militia.

On Sunday afternoon, Hashd al-Shaabi commander Hadi Amri visited Khurmatu and met with the Kirkuk Governor and Peshmerga commanders. Following the meeting, both sides agreed on a ceasefire and told journalists that those who triggered the clashes will be punished.

However, Kurdish people in the town refused to abide by the ceasefire and insisted on dismissing the militia in Khurmatu. They stated that the militia has triggered the clashes and killed Kurds.

“They have killed our brothers. We call on Kurdish security not to stop us until we kick this militia out of the town,” a Kurdish youth carrying a weapon told Kurdistan24.

Well we don't know but the first Iraqi civil war occurred in 2006-2011 it was mostly between Sunni and Shia Arabs. Now this new civil war is between Shia Arabs and Kurds 2017 ongoing. However Iraq since the Zionist Anglo-American engineered war of 2003, had and never knew peace and it will continue to bleed. The country is pretty much destroyed and could never get back on it's feet. However now most of the Sunni Arabs are being neutral and don't see this new conflict as part of their business, because to them both Kurds and Shia Arabs were allied against them. The Sunni Arabs managed to be somewhat de-facto from Baghdad, by returning to tribal sheikhs in the Western region. However the conflict is now increasing between the Shia Arabs and Kurds. The Shia's don't want to give Kirkuk, an oil rich city, but also Turkey and Iran are involved from behind the scenes, and both are aiding the Shia Arabs against the Kurds, Turkey is giving aide not because they love the Shias on the contrary, but rather due to their own geopolitical interest in the region. But yes the conflicts in the region will continue to drag on.

I honestly don't get how retarded Iraqi politicians can be. Their countries has been in ruins for almost 15 years yet they keep creating conflicts. On top, the Kurds have earned the right to keep Kirkuk since the so amazing Iraqi army fled from Kirkuk, Mosul and various of other places. The Turks are butthurt as fuck because their little Turkmen minority isn't under Turkish rule, you should have read what their ratface MHP leader said the other day, Turks apparently aren't done playing mr. Imperial and Iraq has too many stupid politicians to grow out of its catastrophic situation.

Fighting the Iraqi army is not like fighting any modern army, even the SAA is a far better opponent.

This is an ethnic conflict at the end of the day the Shias are Arabs. The Shia Arabs are also fighting in one way on both sectarian and ethnic levels. Not to mention the Sunni Arabs are maintain a neutral position and honestly some them prefer to be part of Kurdistan as long their ethnic and minority rights are recognized especially those of Bedouin tribal groupings. Shia Arabs want to keep Iraq united as much possible to ensure their supremacy and to have the most control of Iraq's oil reserves, hence why they don't want to give up Kirkuk, and this just the beginning of a civil war. Well the Sunni Arabs of the Western region maintain neutral position and Baghdad does not really enforce much due to tribal sheikhs overriding the government, and plus lack of oil, but now natural gas is found there so it will be interesting how things will play out.

I am not so worried about the Iraqi - Kurdish conflict, according to numerous family members Iraqi soldiers and militias are terrible fighters, I'd be worried if they were tribal Sunni Arabs, they have more moral and couragement at least while the Shiites would just suffer high casualties and flee like they did from Kirkuk and Mosul lmfao

I hope the Iraqis lose this one, not because I'm Kurdish but because they need a serious kick of realisation, if they barely could handle ISIS what makes them think they'd handle a much bigger better equipped army on a defense position? If I was Iraqi I'd wake up from that Shiite crap life and actually do something to save my country, its like another Afghanistan.

I think enough storing weapons in Egypt, time to use it for the favor of Iraq and Syria.

Didn't ISIS count as a civil war as well? Has Iraq ever not been in a civil war since they were invaded for no real reason in 2003?
