The Saudis real motive to expand the haram was to remove Ottoman and Hashemite renovation work, architectural signature and most importantly erase any linkage to those eras because they only captured mecca and the Hejaz in the 1930s, though there were several Saudi state renditions since the 1700s

No insults. A Muslim can do hajj how he wants. Like that one man from Bosnia who walked all the way to Mecca.

The tower is ugly and shows the Saudi lack of refine taste, but you have to admit, they have done a marvel with the expansion of the holy mosques, and the accomodation of pilgrims and worshippers:
