As treats on special occasions only... because I like to keep my weight low and these delicious desserts are full of sinful calories.
I strongly dislike the Turkish dessert of Baklava (a lot of English people spit that out in disgust as it's far too sugary and very sickly... like eating a mouthful of sugar and sticky syrup... eww.)
I'm also not keen on dry sponge and dry cake, but I'm ok with moist sponge or if it's layered with cream or something moist. I love anything with a soft, slightly sweet, and creamy texture. (As a child I would ask my mother and grandmother not to carefully prepare and make a birthday cake for my birthday parties, as I much preferred trifle to cake... so each year I'd request for a trifle rather than a cake to be made at my birthday parties.)
Traditional English Trifle
English Knickerbockerglory
Wall's Vienetta (from England)
Banana Split (from the U.S.)
Mississippi Mud Pie (from the U.S.)
Crème Brûlée (originally from France.) You need a specialist blowtorch to create the caramelised topping.
Chocolate éclairs (made with choux pastry and originally from France)
Profiteroles (originally from France)
A profiterole, cream puff, or chou à la crème is a filled French choux pastry ball with a typically sweet and moist filling of whipped cream, custard, pastry cream, or ice cream. The puffs may be decorated or left plain or garnished with chocolate sauce, caramel, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
Swiss Fondue
Danish pastries (very popular in England.)
Apple Strudel (originally from France.)
Italian Tiramisu (very popular here... it's originally from Italy.)
Angel Delight (from England.)
Belgian Truffles
Black Forest Gateau (a popular dessert from Germany)
