I doubt she can do anything to uncultured Turkish citizens in France who are already settled there. But for middle-class modern Turkish couples from Turkey who would like to take a romantic visit to Paris; she'd make it challenging to obtain a visa.

The thing is left-wing politicians in EU tend to cater to the interests of islamists or pious Muslims who wear burqa. This is directly opposed to the left-wing forces in Turkey who wage a war against islamism and try to keep the country laic. I'm sure Kemalists are as much pro-laicity as Le Pen, if not more. But Kemalists are usually social democrats. I also realized that progressivism has a really bad reputation so I ceased to call myself one in this forum since it is associated with those European leftists who appease to islamist groups.

In the past I used to sympathize with European Socialists; the CHP that I was cheering for is a member of PS. The first time when I figured out that something was wrong with the European left; is when Hannes Swoboda (former leader of the Socialist group) criticized the CHP leader for bashing Erdogan. Also some European leftists criticized the concept of Kemalism and called it fascist in a meeting with the CHP. This is utterly bullshit.

Sorry but; this is not what I think of socialism. Left is a progressive revolutionary ideology; which means you have to fight anything that is backward. Burqa is backward. Islamism is backward. Orthodox is backward. Vatican is backward. A true socialist can not tolerate any of these. Like the Soviet Union or the Jacobins.
