Is there a point in getting married and having children?

Hey guys,
As always I'm only interested in mature discussions. However, it seems the incentive to get married or have children is among the lowest in the history of mankind, at least in the Western World.

I'm guessing that back in the day people where deeply religious and had children without a second thought it was something they did. However, easier access to pre-marital sex, easier access to traveling around the world where you can meet women from every country in the world, the rise of all these countercultural groups(Redpill, MGTOW..etc), access to contraception, it seems all the stars have align for their to be a cultural change where people not only choose to not get married but also to not have children.


Moreover, it seems that having children comes at a great personal cost with little reward. Where you'll have to take care of them for 18 years. This generation have seen their parents get divorced, which for every children is painful. What's worst, I'm sure they've seen their younger siblings radically change their personality from when they were younger. At least, from my own personal experience I had a younger sibling who I was close with. However, I've seen how time has radically change my sibling where we no longer have any relationship.

From a legal point of view it makes less and less sense (the position of men is so bad that it's like walking into a bear trap) but from a humane point of view - it makes all the sense in the world.

This is something everyone decides for himself. You won't get a universal answer.
Mine is:
- Children - yes
- Marriage - not necessarily (you and your woman can be better off without it)

I say yes, but only if you are ready to settle down, if you aren't it can be unfair to your children and spouse.

So due to trends, we should simply stop trying, as a society?

I never understood this mentality. I don’t care if 99% of people are unmarried and/or divorced. Not swaying me.

Depends on the person, as a result I don't see the point in arguing for or against it in such a way; some people just aren't fit for marriage, or aren't capable of being with one person for the rest of their lives. It was always something I've wanted myself.

Surely there is.
Love is needed for humans. When you love someone truly, you want to piece together your life with his/hers. Marriage is the best option in such situation by law, morals and also for social life.

Some time ago i probably would be indifferent, but now i see that i feel happier and satisfied sharing what i feel with who i love. It's something inner and personal.
