Geographical distribution of right and left-wing "extremism" in Italy

Just wondering, from Italians - in what regions do you tend to find the highest levels of fascist and communist sympathy respectively? The impression I have gotten is that Sicily has always been a hotbed of communist sympathizers while "hey, at least Mussolini made the trains run on time" sentiment is extremely common in the north. Is this an accurate generalization you think?

It surprises me there would not be more sympathy for fascism in Sicily, given Mussolini's great success in suppressing the mafia.

Livorno is (or was?) the most leftist city in Italy

The communist party was born there and has the historic tradition in the Blue Collar Hard industry of Oil and metals plus the industry of Fishmen and Port


As for the geographic of politics;

In Italy there is the Red Central Square that comprises Emila Romagna, Tuscany, Marche and Umbriain wich people for tradition has always voted the left. It has an historic trdition in our paisant country and Mezzadria

The most right places are those founded by Mussolini in wich he promoted colonization after the land transformation from marsh to fertile land: Southern Lazio mostly

The northern alpine valleys are the stronghold if Lega Nord wich is a centre right identity party
