Native American businessmen are increasingly seeking global business partnerships to create jobs and new businesses in their territories. They have held talks with Chinese, Spanish and Australian companies, but their tribal leaders' trip to Turkey was the first large-scale overseas exploration of new trade ties, they said.

And good for them! They should be as autonomous as possible. Also, this fits in with my personal hobby-horses: decentralization, localism, and secession. If the First Nations peoples can do it, so can everyone else who'd rather run their own lives than kowtow to the Empire of Dee-Cee.

BTW, I do prefer that term, First Nations (is it Canadian in origin?) over 'Native American' (I was born in America--am I not native to her?). Or, just calling folks by their tribe (Cree, Chippewa, etc.) when known.

From the combination of "native american" and "turkey" in the thread title I expected a post about Thanksgiving. Taken literally I expected a surreal exchange of ties in the sartorial sense for turkeys in the avian sense.

Line me up too, then. The Union was not and is not worth preserving by the force of arms. If any wish to leave, so be it. The Founders seceded from the British Empire, did they not? Secession is an eternal right for everyone.

Interesting. And here I thought we had broken them enough that this wasn't possible. Which tribes are involved in this delegation?

We're going to have a very difficult time maintaining order if we have strong enclaves in this country at a time when so many people are so displeased with the government. It would fly in the face of all the historical claims that a seceded state from the US could never survive on its own.

The US seceded from the Empire; it survived, did it not? And most European nation-states are smaller in size than the average American state. Yes, European population densities are higher, but I really don't see that as an advantage.

There are a few that would not fare as well as the others, but any one of the 50 states would outrank any third-world crap-hole if it were independent. California, Illinois, Texas, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania--if run well, they'd be international power-houses.
