EDIT: No one scored their region except one Campanian. Two Sicilians -- one from Palermo and one Catania -- were closer to Greek islanders than to other Sicilians. The Apulian is close to central Italians. One person from Campania was closer to the Cyclades. A number of Sicilians scored Malta first.

Which ones do you mean?

Both results from Trapani province seem to shift northward. I think Trapani was probably once the most Levantine of them all (because a lot of the ancient populations there were West Asian) but they were repopulated from mainland Italy during the Crusades, while Palermo has far more assimilated Jews, Agrigento and Malta have interacted and so on.

Given its history, Trapani is unimpressively not "exotic" I find a lot more people in Palermo who are likely to be partially Jewish, Berber, or Phoenician (one of the Palermitans has 7% North African on Dodecad K12b, but this level is rare even for Iberia).

The Ragusa result comes up South Italian + NE Euro or Balkan, which to me does say Greek. By contrast the Catania results fit better with those of Campania/Calabria I think. Apulia is an outlier.

I think Trapani was probably once the most Levantine of them all (because a lot of the ancient populations there were West Asian) but they were repopulated from mainland Italy during the Crusades, while Palermo has far more assimilated Jews, Agrigento and Malta have interacted and so on.

Given its history, Trapani is unimpressively not "exotic" I find a lot more people in Palermo who are likely to be partially Jewish, Berber, or Phoenician (one of the Palermitans has 7% North African on Dodecad K12b, but this level is rare even for Iberia).

The Ragusa result comes up South Italian + NE Euro or Balkan, which to me does say Greek. By contrast the Catania results fit better with those of Campania/Calabria I think. Apulia is an outlier.

Yeah, the Trapani ones and the one from Porticello, although looking back at it, they're not too exceptional.

What I notice is all of Sicily is fairly Levant shifted but Trapani and Syracuse/Ragusa can be more European than the rest of the island.

I'm unsure, because it is difficult to know how much Phoenicians/Carthaginians differed from the natives. But as for Greeks, we can see stronger Greek influence in the southeast which is evidenced by the Baltic/NE Euro scores going up.. that one is easy.

I think if someone scores 7%+ Red Sea or 30%+ East Med, it's likely they have some kind of historical MENA influence.
