Our geographical position is very critical. Imo Turkey should lean towards EU so as to avoid the instability and lack of development surrounding our eastern borders.

Its benefical for everyone having turkey in the EU. Even for countries east of turkey and most definitely for those west of it.

Yes, that's the point. If the Union accept Turkey, they have to manage dangerous borders...and if one of the EU member is involved in a war then all the members have to go to the war...and I think beacuse of that Europe is "afraid" of Turkey membership...hot borders

The results of the recent Turkish referendum and the fact that 50% of the population is basically Islamist shows that Turkey does not share European values. Turkey must put its house in order and I don't think Turkey will ever be Europe.

They're also afraid of losing us; Turkey aligning with Russia is definitely not something they would like to see. That's why they haven't shut the door despite all scoldings by Erdogan.
