I think culture is the biggest barrier for you. You don't speak Icelandic and while Icelanders speak English very well, it's a barrier being a foreigner like that. If you knew Icelandic however and knew their culture, then I think your 'exotic' looks could possibly play to your advantage. It's not as if morally they are that different from Italians.

Not sure how courageous their men are to walk toward 'that Italian girl'. It's their loss if they wouldn't. They have to man up and just do it.

Many mixed couples do speak English at home, but meeting someone like that isn't for everyone. It's still an obstacle.
