Well I did think learning Spanish in high school was easier than choosing to learn French. So makes sense i guess lol.

I think she was talking to non-Hispanic Americans. I'm an American, but I'm of Hispanic origin, so I'm not giving an answer here. But yeah, I'm assuming the thread is directed toward Americans, since it's entitled "Americans: Do you know Spanish?"

I find French fairly simple to pick up since both French and Spanish are Latin derived and I learned Spanish at home. I do remember the first time I really had a conversation in Spanish with someone from outside of my community as a child and there was often I would use a word they were not familiar with and it made me realize just how much slang I use in my Spanish dialect.

I don't speak Spanish as a native language, but I was surrounded by it by way of family who did and surroundings as a child (spending time in Guatemala and Mexico in my childhood). I do speak it fluently though, at least enough to where I'm comfortable using it with other people and getting myself understood.

It's a very easy language. Extremely simple phonology and grammar, a phonetic spelling, and clear, pure sounds. This is really the langauge that should be a global lingua franca, as opposed to a beast like English.
