You have a point; but your conclusion is flawed. ISIS also has high recruitement from Western countries, but not so much from countries like Saudi Arabia. You know why? because islamists in countries like Saudi Arabia don't see a reason to leave as their way of thinking and ideology is already mainstream. But those in Western countries get radicalized because they are alienated in an environment where they fail to make up the majority.

The same applies to Tunisia, in my opinion. It has Islamists; who feel that they can't dominate over the country. Do you even realize that Tunisian people voted for a secularist party against the Islamist one in the elections? both in presidential and parliamentary elections. There's a very strong secularist ground out there.

Tunisia is a young democracy and it's evolving in the right direction, but we have to wait and see whether it's there to last. It's very unpredictable.

Yea but I just feel that we should appreciate them and give them their due. I have personal interest in this country and did some readings and followed news about it. Things that I noticed; they have many non-Hijabi and modern-dressed women. There's easier access to alcohol.

Tunisia has also went through a series of modernization reforms, especially by their founding president Bourgiba. And it's safe to say these have made some lasting impact. Note that they are probably the only country to get through Arab Spring just fine without being destabilized.

No wonder our flags are similar I think Tunisia is the most similar Arab country to us.

I'd like to visit this country sometime in the future.

Tunisia is very westernized thats true (perhaps the most westernized Arab country after Lebanon and followed by Algeria and then Morocco), especially the big cities but there is really an increase of extremism, many ISIS members are Tunisians and the economic situation decreased a lot as well...

I think the westernization and after the end/fail of Ben Ali, some Tunisians felt a nostalgia and wanted to come back to "traditions"... btw many Tunisians regret Ben Ali...the corruption is about the same than before
i loved Tunisia though, nice country to visit.

It's difficult to run a country in development. GDP per capita is still only $3,700. That's a shaky grounds to run of course. I've also read that Beji Caid Essebsi is of Italian descent. I guess some elites there have colonial roots. Not sure how common this is over there.
