Default Arabic and Germanic toponyms in the Iberian peninsula

It seems Suebi occupation end up being more influential than the Visigothic one.

It seems also rather natural that Spain has more Arab toponyms since Portugal or the territory that now is considered part of the country was never seen as an important region for the Moors, so they never setled nor constructed as much as they did in Andaluzia, also Algarve got reconquered in 1249, whereas Granada was taken in 1492.

The Albanians, these tigers of mountain wars ... have as their religion rebellion. Even their worst warrior is one of the strongest and bravest on the battle-field, just as if he was a knight on the legendary horse. But he has no horse, nor proper weapons for battle. Instead of the horse, he has a lance which strikes as lightning, he has spears who's points are full of posion as the sting of hornets, he has also a wooden bow with some arrows. Furthermore, he is stronger than iron ...

It has specialy in the South. Names with the prefix "Al" are considered to be a Arabic toponym. Just notice the names "Algarve", "Alentejo"......

Yes, Galicia (Spain) has more Germanic toponyms but overall, Spain is much bigger but it doesn't has many more toponyms of Germanic origin whereas the South and Centre are a sea of Arabic ones.

Southern Portugal has a lot of that too.

No idea, probably they where named or renamed under the influence of some bigger and more important southern cities.

The Arab toponyms also coincide with the semi-arid and arid zones of the Iberian peninsula, climate wise....which further confirms the point in my earlier thread regarding Moorish settlement.
