Default Surnames specific to one region, province, or town of a country?

Are there any surnames specific to one region, town, or city of a country?

There are some Sicilian surnames that are distinctly from one region or another. The best examples I can think of that almost always tell you someone's location are all of the "Maltese" surnames: Farruggia, Vella, Schembri, Spiteri/Spitaleri, Camilleri, and Caruana which are all concentrated in Agrigento, Caltanissetta, and Palermo.

I know in Ireland you run into region-specific surnames. How about in Spain?

Yeah, three of four of my grandparent's surnames are specific to southern Galica. The other one can be found in Galicia and in Catalan speaking areas of Spain (no connection between the two for the surname).

The Albanians, these tigers of mountain wars ... have as their religion rebellion. Even their worst warrior is one of the strongest and bravest on the battle-field, just as if he was a knight on the legendary horse. But he has no horse, nor proper weapons for battle. Instead of the horse, he has a lance which strikes as lightning, he has spears who's points are full of posion as the sting of hornets, he has also a wooden bow with some arrows. Furthermore, he is stronger than iron ...

My surname "Edralin" originates from Ilocos Norte, in Philippines. According to a source online the family were among the early "ilustrados" of Ilocos Norte. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilustrado

    AGCAOILI.

Julio Agcaoili was born in Piddig, Ilocos Norte on 12 April 1855. His parents were Vicente Agcaoili and Jacoba Ventura. He married Ruperta Pichay of Magsingal, Ilocos Sur.

They had ten children: Pascual [ municipal treasurer; writer and composer of Ilocano zarzuelas and dramas ], Francisco [ US-trained chemical engineer ], Romarico [ US-trained civil engineer ], Julia [ Manila Carnival Queen of 1909; Mrs. Jose Martinez ], Pilar [ Ilocos Norte Carnival Queen; Mrs. Liborio Albano ], Trinidad [ Mrs. _____ _____ ], Angela [ Mrs. { Gen. } Fidel Segundo ], Vicente [ US-trained engineer, music professor, and violinist ], Antonio [ surgeon, founder of San Antonio hospital in Laoag ], and Violeta [ Mrs. { Col. } Amado Martelino ]. The five men were all accomplished professionals; the five ladies were accomplished in their own right and all married successful career men.

They were among the early “ilustrados” of Ilocos Norte.

    VALDEZ [ with a Z, not an S ].

VER. According to knowledgeable Ver descendants, aside from their obvious Spanish antecedents, the Ver clan actually has Dutch origins: Ver as in Vermeer, Vermeulen…

Jose Quevedo Ver married Adela Rizal Hidalgo [ daughter of Saturnina Rizal de Hidalgo, sister of national hero Jose Rizal ] and they had three daughters: Emma Ver married Ramon Reyes; Purisima Ver married Nestor Villaroman; and Aurora Ver married Felix Gonzalez.

Elena Ver [ a first cousin of Jose Quevedo Ver ], was the mother of General Fabian C. Ver.

We still haven't figured out if it's of Spanish origin or something else for example. Doesn't really look or sound Spanish though lol. Could be European yes but not particularly Spanish. My DNA results suggests Spanish ancestry more than anything else though, I believe.

Sardinian surnames are very peculiar and unique of Sardinia, 90% of them end with U, a thing non existent in Italy, where 90% of surnames end with I

I have always thought that most Sardinian surnames resemble the Romanian family name.

As I think the Portuguese resembles Russian, the Romanian resembles a Slavic language with Latin influence, the Ukrainian resembles Russian, the Polish resembles Russian, etc.

The U it's a thing derived from Latin adjectives or nouns, minus the final S or M, and survived in Sardinian and Romanian

    Latin - actual Sardinian Surnames

    Canus - Canu (white haired)
    Magnus - Mannu (big)
    Crassus - Rassu (fat)
    Spissus - Spissu (thick)
    Longus - Longu (long)
    Bonus - Bonu (good)
    Nigellus - Nieddu (black)
    Fenum - Fenu (hay)
    Catellus - Cadeddu (little dog)
De Rivus - De Riu (of the river)

my surname is very regional and unique, it's found only in Menorca( one of the Balearic Islands, it's found too in Mallorca and Barcelona in very low incidence, but probably are migrants from Menorca), it's a form/adaptation of an Catalan surname that is found in all Catalonia

but it's found too in Argentina,Chile,Bolivia,USA and Brazil, brought by immigrants
