The Corsicans I've seen are closer to Tuscans.

Why not Maltese? They are originally Sicilian and their language originated there too.

Maltese is an Arabic language, it descends from Siculo-Arabic that was developed in Sicily, but it's not really originated in Sicily.

No brainer to me. Maltese might not be Italian, they were heavily influenced by Italian culture to the point almost if not most of their vocabulary is Italian-derived despite speaking a Semitic language.
