Default European Som-Dems unite against "extreme right wing" (in vain, btw)

European Socialists take the lead on fight against extreme right

Mr. Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, President of the Party of European Socialists (PES), speaking in Budapest, welcomed the initiative of the S&D Group (Socialists and Social Democrats) of the European Parliament in today signing the 'Budapest Declaration'.

The Declaration takes a strong stance against the extreme right parties.

Mr. Rasmussen said that there was a huge trend across Europe that needs to be tackled. The declaration follows on from the PES 'Confronting the Extreme Right' declaration.

He thanked Hungarian Socialist leader, Attila Mesterhazy for his strong leadership on the issue. Mr. Mesterhazy had earlier pledged to take on the Hungarian extreme right JOBBIK party, but also made an important criticism of the ruling FIDESZ party, which he said was adopting the same tone as JOBBIK on many issues.

Mr. Rasmussen praised the statement by S&D Group President Mr. Martin Schulz MEP, which; "contrasts his (Mr. Schulz') strong commitment to fundamental values with the destructive attitudes like in the Danish Peoples Party (DPP). These extremist parties all met in Vienna on October 23rd to coordinate their actions but enough is enough, its time to fight back".

Martin Schulz MEP called the Danish Peoples Party 'openly xenophobic'. He slammed the recent rules on Danish residents marrying non-EU nationals and said that the DPP was creating 'first and second class citizens'. He added that is was the 'worst case of its kind in Europe'.

Mr. Schulz was speaking as the 184 socialist and social democratic Members of the European Parliament met in Budapest to discuss EP issues. They also signed the 'Budapest declaration' which calls for a strong response in confronting the rise of the far Right.

Mr. Rasmussen also led the discussion on the future of social democracy in Europe. This debate drew wide interest and will lead into the preparations for the PES Council in Warsaw on 2-3 December.

Too little, too late. Your time is running out, your money is running out, and soon you won't be able to even borrow any more. Fewer and fewer people believe you anymore, fewer and fewer even listen to you.

For the first time in years, I feel like we finally might be on the brink of the turnaround now.

The nerve they have to call themselves social-democrats. They are neither social nor democrats. Traitors ? Yes that's what they are.

People like Koos Vorrink, Willem Drees, Per-Albin Hansson, Floor Wibaut, Jean Jaurès and Tony Benn: that were social-democrats. And those are people that I feel a certain ideological attachment too. Not these traitors.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

If they come back to its traditional roots it'll not be so in vain. The working class and the middle class in general, do not adhere to extremism.

I might bw wrong, but afaIk it's actually not that uncommon in that country.

That's because they're the ones who one way or the other, pay for social experiments. Yes, IF the sos-dems went back to their roots they might achieve something of value.

Too bad that it would surprise me less to look out the window on Christmas Day at 11.47, and see it raining gas-maked Adolf Hitlers, each one holding a banana opened at the wrong end.
