Fenerbahçe became the first Turkish club to claim European basketball’s top club trophy with a magnificent 80-64 victory over Olympiacos on May 21.
The championship game of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four in Istanbul saw a brilliant performance from Fenerbahçe center Ekpe Udoh, who posted 10 points, nine rebounds and five blocks, while Nikola Kalinic and Bogdan Bogfanovic led the winning side in scoring with 17 points each.
It was a combined team effort that brought Fenerbahçe the victory, with nine players scoring for the winning side.
Olympiacos center Khem Birch scored 14 in 17 minutes for the Greek side.
With the support of its fans in front of a fold out crowd, Fenerbahçe forward Jan Vesely performed a reverse alley-oop dunk in the first attack of the game. Another dunk by Vesely, and three 3-pointers from his teammates in four minutes was a sign of what was yet to come.
Olympiacos trailed for the entire game, at times coming very close, but Fenerbahçe exploded in the fourth quarter for a 16-point victory.
