I may be wrong, but I simply have the feeling that Eastern Turkey leans towards the Iranic world without being Persian. On the other hand, when I visited the Balkans, no matter the country and the religion, I could feel I was in Turkey.
I've never been to the East so can't say anything. But I hear Tunceli is a cool place especially given the fact that it comes off very liberal despite being underdeveloped as women have no issues wearing bikini near the river. They don't have sea but they have beaches and I guess this does not exist in neighboring cities.

It's too bad the government does not invest in this city for political reasons. It does deserve more than cities like Erzurum for sure.

Anyway, it seems TG is the most open-minded and the most sophisticated Turk on TA.

Palestine was lost to British 100 years ago thanks to the arab rebels leaded by Sheriff Hussein. The population was not 80M then.

I've been to Van, and I remember there were businessmen from Iran. Often, signs are written in Turkish AND Farsi. I guess people from Van feel culturally (and not only geographically) closer to Iran than to Bulgaria. It would certainly be the opposite in East Thrace
