    Default Irish Migration to England

Was there a large Irish population that moved down into England like say in between the years 1000-1600?

A few Irish settled before that during the Dark Ages around the coasts of Western England - wherever you find Ogham basically.
Some latter came with the Vikings to North West England when they were booted out of Dublin. They were quite Vikingised though and most of the Irish amongst them were likely women with Norse men.

Most of the movement has been of English to and from Ireland during that period. Irish immigration en mass started much latter.

    Not just Liverpool.

Big Irish-derived communities exist on Clydeside around Glasgow, in parts of Edinburgh and Dundee and in all industrial areas of Britain, as well as London of course.

Ah, well, I'm just going from what I know. My grandmother was from Liverpool and know that the majority of the community has Irish background there. So I am probably part Irish too, even though I don't know it for sure.

Sir Paul McCartney is descended from Irish immigrants who settled in Liverpool.

Most people in Liverpool are Irish and it really was the biggest part of Britain to absorb the Irish flux. Bet my grandmother was as well though I don't know it. Weren't all the Beatles from Liverpool and Irish background?
