Favela tourism in Rio de Janeiro

For decades, many of Rio's mountainside favelas were off limits, but some are now safe and welcome tourists, offering them a unique view of the city. Dom Phillips reports from four of them

This is the Global Peace index that takes into considerations certain factors. You have to choose the filter of "Violent Crime" on the right. Spain is in second place of nations with least violent crime in 2017. Portugal is in the first position.

United States of America in 114th position, in good company between...wow...Rwanda & El Salvador

The USA is perhaps the only nation in the world where you can get killed by accident by a toddler.

Hopefully, one day, Muricans will understand that owning a firearm is not the solution to their problems, but the cause.

Technically it's "most peaceful" but this is bullshit anyway.
    Why did they downgrade America?
We're 114 out of 163. Give me a fucking break.

Actually according to the index, violent crime is not really a problem in the U.S. What is bring the U.S. so down in the ranking of global peace is other factors such as nuclear and heavy weapons, weapons exports, access to weapons and high incarceration levels.

One thing is certain: Brazil is a mess mostly because of Portuguese colonization.

If other ethnic group have taken control of this great amount of land, this would be one of most developed places in the world. Brazilian elites are by far pure or almost pure Portuguese descended. So if the country is a mess it's Portugal's fault.

It's very simple to see that the places where other immigrants inhabit are more developed socially than the Ibero-American areas. Even Syrians, Lebanese and other Christian Arabs contributed positively.

The Iberian dominated areas are famously marked by social inequality and a very rigid hierarchy. Brazil is a country created and turned independent by Portuguese colonists (the present Brazilian elite) just to maintain their privileges and materialistic apettites. They never aspired to create a true ethos and a true nation there. It's a nation created based on exploration, slavery and murder. It's different from US where the colonists exterminated the natives but had a great interest to create a true nation.

The whole Latin America started as a prey enterprise by the part of Iberians. These countries could never succeed. The only ones that more or less made it, like Argentina and Uruguay, have a strong Italian influence.

US scores 1/5 on Violent Crime. Why are there so many terrorist attacks in France where you can't own guns?
One of the most interesting findings in the report is that areas with the highest gun ownership rates have low murder rates.

That's the way civilized people behave. They keep their hands to themselves. If they have an issue with someone they restrain their most primitive instincts and only use violence when confronted with violence.
