Weʼre raising £2,000,000 to Help the families of Grenfell Tower, West London who have been devastated by a fire which has destroyed their homes and taken loved ones.

In the early hours of Wednesday 14th June, the residents of Grenfell Tower were awoken to a massive fire which engulfed their home.

In this tight-knit community, many families have lost everything they own, whilst others have lost their lives. Others no doubt will have lost family members, friends and colleagues.

A neighbour who posted pictures of one of the victims of the Grenfell Tower blaze on social media after opening a body bag at the scene has been jailed for three months.

Omega Mwaikambo, 43, was arrested after images were posted online of what appeared to be a partially-covered body following the fatal blaze on Wednesday morning.

He pleaded guilty to two offences contrary to section 127 of the Communications Act, Scotland Yard said.

Mwaikambo, of Testerton Walk, west London, was sentenced to three months at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday, the force added.

He didn't kill anyone;- he was jailed for opening a body bag and taking macabre photographs of a dead person from the tower blaze to post and share on social media.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a faulty fridge inside an unsafe residential block.

For gods sake, it is hardly the government of the days' fault. These people need to accept any and all regulations were drawn up by politicians of the past. No freebie hand outs in the meanwhile. Find accommodation for those now homeless. The homes of locals vacant for whatever reason is not acceptable. This building not about to be replaced any time soon. That is private property and wasn't avilable before and isn't now.

They move where there is space and where they and their family have a future.

Get back to work and stop bitching. You're not owed anything but the value of what you lost.

Capitalism, showing its ugly face on this one and the council will be involved with planning too. Cheaping out for profit on regulations that ought to be tighter or perhaps rules broken.


Can't get this out of my head, really. Too sad.

Not long enough to shift the blame on an economic system despite the fact regulations were in place. I can guarantee the rent for these apartments don't match what is needed to keep it up to code. I've seen this many times before where the goal is to help the poor by artificially keeping rent prices low. What happens is the building owner is stuck with a building he can't sell and he loses money to bring it up to code. No one buys property so they can lose money and so with the inability to pass the property onto someone else they try to evade regulations or the state looks the other way. The local government would have to kick people out of their apartments and all they end up doing is placing the burden of the property on the city/town with no property tax dollars going to the coffers and no one willing to buy the property to fix up the place because it's financial suicide.

What ends up happening is the area becomes run down and if the owner eventually goes bankrupt (assuming the person doesn't have other means to offset the financial loss) the city (hopefully) sells it to a construction company that bulldozes the area with the city crossing its fingers that the new fancy houses and building space will bring middle class folks and the poor tenants are now pushed out of the area, which is what would have happened naturally if there was no rent control and they would have had an easier time finding affordable housing (where the buildings would be up to code because the cost doesn't out weigh trying to hide it and bribing people) and be safe. It's literally impossible to hide a building not up to code but what's the point of doing so if you're stuck with property you can't sell to anyone stupid enough to buy it from you (unless it's a construction company that is in a hurry and can't wait long enough for you to go bankrupt and get the property off the town/city) and you may not even have the money to bring it up the code?

The fault lies in people's ignorance of basic economic principles and consequently voting for local leaders who either don't understand or don't care to understand how property is valued but talk a good game about how they care about people.
