East Slavic languages are quite close to each other. If you understand let's say Russian you don't have huge difficulties understanding Ukrainian or Belarussian.

They probably could be even considered as dialects of Eastern Slavic language if their lands belonged to a one state.

I guess Serbian is intelligible with Slovenian and Macedonian, and maybe Bulgarian, but only some of it`s dialects

    For the South Slavic group:
-Bosnian ,Croatian,Serbian and Montenegrin (BCSM ) are 90%-98% mutually intelligible.
    -Bulgarian and Macedonian 80-90 %.
-BCSM and Bulgarian & Macedonian are 60% mutually intelligible
-Slovenian and BCSM are also mutually intelligible, but I'm not sure in what %
All of them have their own dialects based on region where spoken, but when standardised you get these procents .

We can roughly untherstand other slavs by picking a few words, but to maintain a conversation with Russians,Ukraines ....would be impossible

Ukrainian, Polish and Belarusian are quite similar, but not the same.

Isn't that weird, that we understand East Slavic languages better than other West Slavic languages? Why is that?
