Default U.S. downs Syrian army jet in Raqqa

A U.S. warplane shot down a Syrian army jet on Sunday in the southern Raqqa countryside with Washington saying the jet had dropped bombs near U.S. backed forces and Damascus saying the plane was downed while flying a mission against Islamic State militants.

A Syrian army statement released on Syrian state television said the plane crashed and the pilot was missing. It said the incident took place on Sunday afternoon near a village called Rasafah.

The "flagrant attack was an attempt to undermine the efforts of the army as the only effective force capable with its allies ... in fighting terrorism across its territory," the Syrian army said.

"This comes at a time when the Syrian army and its allies were making clear advances in fighting the Daesh (Islamic State) terrorist group."

Later the U.S. Central Command issued a statement saying the Syrian plane was downed "in collective self-defense of Coalition-partnered forces," identified as fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near Tabqah.

It said that "pro-Syrian regime forces" had earlier attacked an SDF held town south of Tabqa and wounded a number of fighters and driving them from the town.

Coalition aircraft in a show of force stopped the initial advance. When a Syrian army SU-22 jet later dropped bombs near the U.S. backed forces, it was immediately shot by a U.S. F/A-18E Super Hornet, the statement said. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-m...-idUSKBN1990XI

Iran launches missiles into eastern Syria, targets ISIS

(CNN)Iran's military announced on Sunday that it launched several missiles into Syria, targeting Islamic State fighters in retaliation for the attacks in Tehran on June 7.

The missile strikes, which occurred on Saturday, are the first reported ground-to-ground strikes from Iran into Syria since the Arab country descended into a civil war in 2011.
"In this operation, several ground-to-ground midrange missiles were fired from IRGC bases in Kermanshah Province and targeted Takfiri forces in the Deir Ezzor region in Eastern Syria," the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said on its official news website, Sepah News. The IRGC uses the term Takfiri to describe ISIS. http://edition.cnn.com/2017/06/18/mi...ria/index.html

Iran shows teeth and power now. They launch from Western Iran and hit Syria. Heating around really heating..

USA don't want this conflict in Syria ends. This war is a great merchandising for their military equipments. See the sale (U$400bi) they did for Saudi Arabia.

Enemies of IS are united against them in the battle in Mosul, but they are divided in the battle in Raqqa if Assad also tries to take the city. This may be beneficial for them.

Assad is a monster who was withholding water from his own people. I don't care if the US attacked Assad, he is part of the problem.

If he tries to capture Raqqa from IS, I doubt the US will allow him to do that. Or we may see more Syrians jets turned into ashes by US warplanes.
