After Manzikert, the Turkmen Seljuks were the true masters of the Abbassid Caliphate, even though the Seljuks kings were theoretically placed under Baghdad's autority, the Abbassids were not allowed to enlist soldiers in the army; only the Seljuks were entitled to recruit troops and to do that, they diverted money from the Caliphate budget.
But The Seljuks failed where the Ottomans succeeded. Because of their lack of well-established principles of dynastic succession. Any man of influence could rise to power. That's the reason why the Seljuk Empire didn't last for long, because of strong internal divisions. But at least, thanks to the Seljuks, Persian became an influent language again (it previously fell into decline for the benefit of Arabic.)

The Seljuks won that battle due to betrayal within Byzantine ranks and their reliance on unreliable foreign mercenaries who deserted for the most part avoiding the battlescene. A nightmare for the Byzantine side, while they did have better equiped and better trained troops.
A historical date for Turks, though. The beginning of the Byzantine decline which would only continue to exist as a shadow of its former self. No Turkey as we know it without such victory.

Yes it was very poor management by the Byzantines asking Normans and Franks to guarantee victory but to see them run only to later establish the first crusade. It would have been no need Normans and Franks would have had territory... but ran.
Byzantines had fronts open in Italy, Epirus, Macedonia and Aegean Islands. Few years before defeated the Rus in three hours when they invaded Constantinople.
Persians had Anatolia for 580 years before they lost it.
