This is what 23andme says. The likelihood of hair loss before 40. Only 19% for me, versus 65% (!!) for the average white man.

If I truly inherited all my hair genes from my maternal grandmother I'll be set for life. Europeans have more harmful/undesirable genetic mutations and the African hair genes are strong (this is the LAST trait to disappear as the generations get whiter and whiter). Mine is just straight.

My dad was a bald as a bat and my maternal grandpa is balding too but wasn't until his early 60s.
I probably carry male pattern hairloss genes sorry any sons.

Most of the men on my father's side go bald into their 30s, on my mothers side not at all. My father did not begin balding until well into his 50s

That being said I'm already beginning to see grey hairs at 25, although my paternal Grandfather was grey at 24. So I'm not sure.

    Who says so?

Most of genes responsible for balding or not are on the X chromosome, and you inherit X chromosome from your mother (AFAIK). So yes, it is mostly from the mother's side. It is not a myth.

I already have a mature hairline. If my hairline moves any further, I'm gonna jump on finasteride. Cannot afford to go bald.

My paternal grandfather went bald, my maternal grandfather has only minor baldness starting in his 70s.

My hairline may be slightly receding, but it's really hard to tell, and I don't know any good dermatologists to check.
