Those Germans that attack Rome were not barbarous, they're Roman army which did not get salary and just wanted to eat. Franks like another German tribes wanted to settle in Roman lands and considered themselves like vassals of Emperor and Roman vicegerents or prefects, they even were ready to become Christians for that. Can you imagine nowadays MENA refugees in Europe, which are ready to give up Islam? That's why Germans always wanted to restore Empire conception in the form of Holly Roman Empire.

There is little difference in dna in all of North West Central Europe and that includes a Saxon, norseman or Iron Age Celt. with modern NW Central Europe
