Four officers have been taken to hospital as riot police attempted to control a violent Black Lives Matter rally in east London.

Rioters threw projectiles at the police line and set fire to bins at the demonstration in Forest Hill in the borough of Newham.

The protest was called after the death of Edir Frederico Da Costa, 25, on the 21st of June, six days after Metropolitan Police officers in Newham stopped him in a car.

Activists claim he was beaten by police and left with a broken neck. However, the Independent Police Complaints Commission said a preliminary post-mortem indicated there were no spinal injuries caused by police, The Times reports.

In total, six police officers were injured, with one male officer sustaining facial injuries and a female officer suffered a head injury, the force revealed in a statement.

The protest of around 200 people started on Sunday afternoon with people holding Black Lives Matter signs made by a group called Stand Up to Racism, which is connected to the disgraced Socialist Workers Party.

Echoing the Black Lives Matter movement in the U.S., they chanted: “No justice, peace! Fuck the police!”

Signs bearing the logo of the Movement for Justice (MfJ) group can also bee seen in photographs – the same open-borders organisation that called the ‘Day of Rage’ protest last week that aimed to “shut down London” and “bring down the government”.

As the sun set, things turned violent. Four rioters were arrested for the offences of arson, disorder, and criminal damages. Helicopters were scrambled and roads were closed in the demonstration, which continued until at least 3 am.

The Metropolitan Police said: “On Sunday, 25 June a protest occurred outside Forest Gate police station, with the protesters later moving on to the Stratford area.

“The protest returned to the police station, where a number of objects were thrown towards officers.

“A small number of roadway fires – involving the contents of litter bins – were started; these were dealt with by the London Fire Brigade. We are not aware of any damage to local buildings.”

Since London is in England, a white country, there should be a protest "White lives matter", against all immigrants which are invading the country.

I wonder if the reason why they're kicking-off is due to the 500 people being killed in the Grenfell Tower inferno (who were mostly people of black and arab descent.)

My maternal uncle (my mother's brother) is in the police force in the historic World Heritage City of Bath, and despite being 6'4" in height, he was also once taken to hospital after a defendant in court was being sentenced by a judge.

The defendant reached and grabbed a glass bottle to throw at the judge, and my uncle was on duty as a police officer in the courtroom and tried to intervene and stop him.... and ended-up needing stitches to the top of his head that was cut open.

(Another time my uncle had to take photographs of a murdered baby some sick criminal had stuffed into a wardrobe which also caused my uncle to feel very distressed for a long while. It's not an easy job and the police do suffer from abuse.)

So I wish that whoever injured the police officers will be publically identified on CCTV and named and shamed in the national media, and prosecuted and locked-up in jail soon, as that's completely unacceptable and unforgiveable behaviour.

I saw a worrying news article somewhere last week stating that police officers called-out to crimes would be reduced... as the police will be spending much of their time now guarding against terrorism attacks.

When police officers stated to the national media that the number of police officers who'd lost their jobs due to government austerity spending cuts to public services prior to the terrorism attacks, the government tried to slander the police as being 'liars'.... but I think the government is lying as they also made huge spending cuts to the national fire brigade services, and to the NHS.

With police force cuts, terror threat attacks, and now riots.... there needs to be more police officers being recruited to protect people against increasing crimes.

A man whose death sparked clashes over allegations of police brutality had "a number of packages in his throat" when he died, an early pathology report has found.

Edir Frederico Da Costa, known as Edson, died on June 21, six days after he was detained by police during a traffic stop.

Campaigners claim Mr Da Costa's neck was broken and that he was "brutally beaten" after the car, containing three people, was halted in Newham in east London.

Some 14 officers were injured after violence erupted during a protest held in Forest Gate on Sunday, as justice was demanded for a young father.

Rumours on social media prompted police watchdog the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) to take the highly unusual step of releasing details of the preliminary post-mortem examination, mid-way through the investigation, which indicated there were no spinal injuries caused by police.

In a statement, associate commissioner of the IPCC Tom Milsom said the cause of death had not yet been identified nor the contents of the packages confirmed.

He added that further tests are to be carried out on the body and he urged any witnesses with mobile phone footage from the incident to come forward.

He said: "Following house-to-house inquiries we have identified a number of independent witnesses and have begun interviewing them.

"We have also recovered some body-worn video which covers the medical attention Mr Da Costa received.

"We are seeking any additional footage that may have been taken at the incident.

"Officers who were involved with the incident have given their accounts.

"Following a preliminary post-mortem examination on June 22, the pathologist stated that there was no fracture of the neck or spinal injury, no broken collarbone and no bleeding on the brain.

"The pathologist removed a number of packages from Mr Da Costa's throat.

"The contents of those packages will undergo further analysis.

"I must stress that the pathologist has not yet identified Mr Da Costa's cause of death and has requested further tests be conducted.

"We are examining the actions taken by police during the original detention of Mr Da Costa, including the use of force, as well as the subsequent response in administering medical assistance.

"I would like to reassure all those who have concerns about the death of Mr Da Costa that we are approaching our investigation with an open mind and working with everyone concerned to provide answers to questions that remain surrounding this incident."

Family campaigners insisted Sunday's protest had been set up as a peaceful march and they did not condone the violence.
