Default Would you believe Mel Gibson to be European?

Italian user Columella said today that Mel Gibson, Ted Danson, Will Ferrell, and Jim Carrey are too uniquely American in appearance to pass as native Europeans. I found that an odd assertion, particularly in regards to Gibson and Danson. Do others agree?

EDIT: To clarify, I'm not asking if they look white, but if they look ethnically European.

I know an Irish guy who looks just like Will Ferrell. Jim Carrey passes easily as French. Mel Gibson passes in the British Isles.

Probably the only uniquely American in appearance out of the four is Ted Danson. However there is this Greek person that somewhat resembles him:

At some extent it's true that the kind of mixing that occurs in the US, and I refer in this case obviously only to a European mixing, is much more common in the US than in Europe, and this could potentially produce a distinctive American vibe. But to say that Mel Gibson, Ted Danson, Will Ferrell, and Jim Carrey are too uniquely American in appearance to pass as native Europeans I also believe that it's an odd assertion.

Anyway I almost never agree with Columella. And this time too.

I had never thought of it prior to TA, but it makes sense that some Americans would look uniquely mixed, especially those from diverse backgrounds. But the above don't seem to fit that bill, in my opinion.

    Isn't Gibson 100% Irish-American? I think Ferrell is also.

Columella is just mad at Gibson after a difficult phone conversation with him.

There are some individuals from the USA who look uniquely American, I am not sure why.

For example the following person although passable in Europe too, screams "I am from the USA".

Exactly so, in any case the above don't seem to fit this bill. Not to mention, as I know, Mel Gibson is mostly Irish with minor English, Scottish, and Welsh ancestry. A quite common mixing also in the British Isles.

Except those extremely white teeth that are very American the rest of him can pass somewhere in Europe.

He's 7/8 Irish, the rest Anglo mix. In his case, it has to be either bias or something American in his demeanor - and even so, I think he grew up in Australia.
