For historical, cultural and other reasons we are also a Balkan country, even if that was not self evident a few decades ago when countries like Bulgaria were part of the "Eastern or Soviet" bloc, and Greece was a member of Nato and the EU. The divide was sharp back then. Greece was considered Western Europe, and Bulgaria eastern Europe. Now that the East-West division is gone, both Greece and Bulgaria are considered again South Eastern Europe.

Most of Greece is still very different from balkans, even though similarities also exist. This doesn't mean that either we are balkans or we are not part of the West.
Also, being western was a procedure much older than cold war, Greece had already a more Mediterranean and more extrovert identity than balkans, which tended to be more eastern euro. And if I have to compare any balkan country I would say montenegro, not countries with zero Mediterranean influence like Bulgaria, which I visit very often, but still can't see many in common
