Many erudites now believe that the expression "Son of God", was meant in a metaphorical sense, as "son of the Creation". It's the apostle Paul who called Jesus Christ the “firstborn over all creation”. The Monophysites believed that there was only one divine nature in Jesus Christ, whereas Arians, Nestorians and Gnostics taught that Jesus Christ had two separate and distinct natures: Human and divine.
But Jesus Christ probably referred himself as a reformer who wanted Judaism to evolve towars more accessible, less elitarian conception. Jesus Christ never founded any new religion. It's Paul the Apostle who really created Christianity.
