Yeah, a kid I knew growing up was killed in Iraq. I thought it was unfortunate for the family and I remember he had stolen a video game from another friend who had borrowed it from another friend. What was else was I suppose to think? It was my last memory of the guy.

No, friends, but on my mom's side, an uncle was a reservist or something in the Kuwaiti armed forces when the invasion happened in 1991. IIRC he along with what remained of the Kuwaiti military, which had stupidly not mobilized its reserves or even regular forces before the war, fled into Saudi Arabia prepping to invade with the coalition and retake Kuwait. He was definitely under fire on multiple occasions, but was never wounded. The rest of my family were either not there, or were unharmed during the occupation by Iraq.
On my dad's side, my great-grandfather fought in the winter and continuation wars, and won the Finnish Liberty Cross for being wounded because Finland didnt have a real medal for being wounded. It had a swastika, lol.
One of his friends, whom he fought with, actually won the Mannerheim Cross. My grandfather took me to his (decades dead) friend's daughter to see it since he knew I was interested in history.
