I think the reason why the media doesn't refer to these people as 'Roma gypsies' is so not to appear as being antiziganist, so they're usually referred to as being either Romanians, Bulgarians, or Eastern Europeans in the media. I think some people are confused by the terms 'Roma' and 'Romanian'. Although they're citizens of Romania where they were born and culturally raised, they also have their own Roma racial and cultural identity within Romania and Bulgaria.
