Israel rejects US-brokered ceasefire in Syria

Israel reportedly opposes the ceasefire agreement in part of Syria negotiated by Russia and the U.S.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told French President Emmanuel Macron during a meeting Sunday that Israel does not support the agreement, Haaretz reported.

Israel rejects the plan because it "perpetuates the Iranian presence," according to Haaretz.

The ceasefire was brokered during the G-20 summit in Germany earlier this month.

It is aimed at bringing relief to the southwestern part of Syria.

Russia and the U.S. have previously brokered ceasefires for Syria, which has been embroiled in civil war since 2011.

Last weekend, President Trump touted the ceasefire.

"Syrian ceasefire seems to be holding," Trump tweeted. "Many lives can be saved. Came out of meeting. Good!"

Looks like Israel rejects everything that's got to do with ceasefire peace and human decency. Is it because of Iran's sprawling military growth into Syria and renewed Hezbollah entrenchment in Lebanon? It's odd that they are not losing any soldiers or using military weapons, yet they can decide that Americans should lose more soldiers. I wonder if Israelis were dying whether they would be receptive to a ceasefire.

The ceasefire might be a load of BS anyway. Naturally, Israel won't be happy about an increased or long term Iranian presence in Syria, but nor will the US. Even the Russians said that Iranian forces will leave Syria once the war is over, whenever that might be. Empowering Iran is not really Russia's objective. Russia supports the existence of Israel anyway.

Iran pushes back against the empire in Syria because it knows it is next on the hitlist, and because it is trying to solidify a new sphere of influence, which the US an allies will ensure can never be properly established or allowed to exist peacefully.

Israel should be expected to shoulder some of the burden of pushing back Iran, and I suspect they will play a role in that regard. They are already in the business of firing missiles at Iranians anywhere near the Israel-Syria border, and may start penetrating further. There are also reports that the high fatality rate among Iranian generals in Syria is because of Israel. War with Iran is probably a foregone conclusion, but any sustained presence of Iranian forces near Israel's border is only going to make it happen sooner. I think the US would love to see Israel-Iran clashes because it would give them an excuse to start the war, ostensibly by coming to the aid of Israel. As for Hezbollah, many have been expecting new conflict with Israel before war with Iran begins, to eliminate retaliation from southern Lebanon when Iran is attacked, but it still hasn't happened yet.

There will be fighting in this land until the end of time, or until one clan drives out the other clan. They both can not inhabit the land, as we are shown year by year.

- weaken Iran, contain Iranian influence inside Syria
- keep Iranian and Iranian-backed forces out of south western Syria
- create four deconfliction zones
- prepare Syria for permanent break-up, as a post Sykes-Picot solution.

And Russia has agreed to it. If true, it's another sign that Russia is not on board with the Iranian "imperial" programme. But they also said that Israel has agreed to it despite not officially being part of the process.

I think the main problem with the MENA region has to do with the geography, resources and backward culture of the people. It's easily accessible, therefore easy to invade, it's an important link between continents and it's rich in resources. Those ancient cedar forests may have been chopped down but then the white man found oil and actually had a revolutionary use for it.
