White Conservatives are going to win regardless of what happens.

The polarization is extreme right now. But it's because "harmless" statements usually signal a person's political "side." Trump disses Mexicans, and people rightly take that as a clue he favors a white America. Likewise, if someone today were to make a statement similar to Humphrey's, it would be a sign that he advocates a welfare state. The chasm between the two sides is so great that a hint of so-called moderation makes a person untrustworthy. The Right, at least, has been bitten too many times.

Only in america a regular doctor makes 200-300 dollars an hour and a nurse minimum $45-90/hour. Thats crazy.
Around the world i dont think doctors make half as much.

You do not see Hubert Humphrey types anymore this man had integrity,, I actually would say McCain showed some courage recently but only after he was diagnosed with a aggressive Brain Tumor.

Humphrey was not a man that necessarily believed in running large deficits to fund a welfare state. He wanted to have a balanced approach and honestly you need some Socialism like Public Schools,Libraries and Police and Firefighters. They are all forms of Socialism.

Humphrey was the most effective legislator the USA has ever had,, these can be attributed to him:
Medicare,Medicaid,Higher Education Act of 1965(Student Loans and Pell Grant programs), Clean Water Act, Civil Rights Act of 1964, Voter Rights Act, Fair Housing Act. Welfare for single mothers and healthcare for pregnant women. He did a lot his ancestry was Norweigan so he had some of the Nordic Social Model in his blood.

He was a true politician. My favorite quote from him, which is on his Tombstone which I went to see:

HUBERT HUMPHREY- "I have enjoyed my life, its disappointments outweighed by its pleasures. I have loved my country in a way that some people consider sentimental and out of style. I still do. And I remain an optimist with joy, without apology about this country and about the American experiment in democracy."

It seems I was right, then. He would have been considered a leftist prior to the political shift of the Depression Era. I oppose welfare for single mothers, public education, the 1964 Civil Rights Act, etc. And duh, he was LBJ's VP. I should have known.

He was LBJ's VP but prior to that he was the Majority Whip, which is responsible for getting the votes to pass legislation. He believed in helping the unfortunate; however, that help was not suppose to be abused. His heart was in the right place and his expansion of Medicare, Medicaid as part of the "Great Society" saved many lives. You and I obviously disagree as I believe the 1964 Civil Rights Act was his greatest accomplishment, but we tend to disagree on many things.

But he did vote against the Bush Tax Cuts , so this is not much of a surprise also knowing Arizona his state has expanded Medicaid.

Yes, we do. I oppose the Civil Rights Act because it has destroyed our right to choose with whom we associate, live, and do business. Those things are not the government's decision.
