I’m not sure if this completely undermines the authenticity of the Italian mafia but I do know that a fair portion of Italy’s organized crime has Griko (Greek) and Arbereshe (Albanian) origins. For example, one of the largest criminal organizations, ‘Ndrangheta‘, has Griko origins. It formed in a predominantly Griko area (Reggio Calabria) and many of it’s founding members were from Griko towns/villages. The name is even Greek, ‘ ἀνδραγαθία/andragathía’. The structure could have some Arab influence via Islamic occupation, but I doubt it is directly influenced by Arabs ethnically speaking. Also maybe some Medieval Spanish influence via Garduña, but again, not directly by Spanish people ethnically speaking.

I think they are definetly of italian ethnicity, but south italian. South italians are not the same as north italians, south is more mixed with arabs, that reduce their IQ and increases crimanlity... Albanese are very close to central - south italians genetically, and by the way you should know the fameous albanese mafia too.

They aren’t mixed with Arabs they are mixed with Greeks and Albanians. Some parts of Sicily have Arab influence but it’s not a big percentage.

The word mafia is Arabic of origin and the collecting of pizzo is similar extortion to collecting jizya from non-muslims.

I think there is a connection that geographically and clearly follows the lines of Magna Graecia, it is something much older than the Arab invasion of Sicily, the First "mafia" It's the Neapolitan Camorra

Yeah, like other Mafia, irish mafia are in majority Irish, Russian the same etc. the motivation is really very very simple, if the "mafioso" snitches etc. all members know very well where their parents are, the mafias were born as street criminals but they are not street criminals, as they can serve the real power (during the reign of Naples, the Bourbons for example often used the Camorra to avoid riots in the city) similar with Yakuza in Japan, those in charge know very well that on the streets, especially in working-class neighborhoods, a leader who "holds at bay" is very effective, as it is human nature to submit to a leader

I'am ethnic french with some italian ancestry.

Jehan is the old version of Jean, the typical french surname. I pick it because I fint it stylish.
Nothing armenian in me.
