its funny that many americans deny the existence of roma, when there are many roma in the usa, i know many who are in the usa. maybe not in your part of the usa though.

I'm just wondering, do you think Chinese and Japanese people would know about the Roma? I don't think they'd be known by many people there either. That's just my guess. I think Indian people would know of them. But not so much in Canada and Australia.

i think even the chinese and japanese heard of them, just like they heard about jews, but jews are not in china or japan either and are a small population, but in history classes they might have heard about them. at least once. most people know who the gypsies are.

americans are from europe, so why would they not know who the roma, many americans travell at least once in their life europe and have family in europe or roots in europe. i dont buy it, certainly they know who the gypsies are. and there are many roma in the usa.

Americans know who Gypsies are. But people do forget things over time. So even if an American has European roots, they may have known the name Roma back then, but forgot this term over time in the USA. But I think most Americans know Roma by the word Gypsy. There is even a tv show with Gypsies I saw on tv once. I remember when I first saw it, it was strange to me because I was so unfamiliar with these people. They just don't exist where I live. But I have nothing against them.

But the colonists left Europe 400 years ago, and I don't think the modern generations of Americans would be aware of the Roma, given that they're a small amount of people in the world.

but not all americans are 400 years in america, only a few, most are much more recent. but ok. i doubt they dont know who the gypsies are. gypsies are famous. even the japanese know them eventhough they might not met one in real life because they are not in japan.

Mississippi is the state right next to us. I live in the New Orleans area, so Mississippi is very close to me. I'm closer to Mississippi than I am to North Louisiana or west Louisiana. I'm only a 45 minute drive from Mississippi. Cool, I didn't know there are Gypsies there. But they must be very small huh? I never see them when I go to southern Mississippi.

It's not always the population size that makes people known internationally, but the impact people have had on the world, or their legacies, influential roles, power status, etc.

there are 1.000.000 gypsies in the USA, eventhough thats a small relatively like 0.5% of the population of USA, its the largest total population of gypsies anywhere in the world even in Romania there are less (but make up more because romania has less inhabitants). I dont know how many of them are in Mississipi.

My family been in Louisiana for 240 years. Before that, Canary Islands. But there are people of French descent here that have been here over 300 years. But there are millions of Americans that descend from the English settlers from 400 years ago on the east coast of the USA. Also, there are many people of Spanish descent in Florida from 500 years ago, near the area of St. Augustine.
