Moreover, Mossadegh was a fool who broke an international agreement, the other party to which naturally took action. In the end, the Shah was very similar to Mossadegh anyway.

Sure, the US was behind the Iran-Iraq War, but let's not pretend the USSR didn't like to see Iraq break away from the Anglo-American empire in a bloody 1958 coup, gravitating towards Moscow thereafter. I think that's an underlying reason why America destroyed Iraq.
