Why the Cathars was exterminated?

when I read a little bit about Cathars history on school, I never understand this. why their ideology/religion caused so much angry on Catholic Church?

Ideologically they differed in interpretation of the nature of Christ. Catholics believe him to be the Son of God, of God and God. Whereas Cathars believed him to be son of God, but not God, or perhaps an Angel. Also differed in the sacrament. I don't believe it has any place in the Cathar mass. The cathars were also big on some sort of Spiritual reincarnation.. i don't really remember much about it, its been a long time since Catholic school.

But like most things I am sure it was primarily a political schism. Dueling ideologies meant spreading around power and influence. Not something the Catholic Church was traditionally good at.

Inspired by other heretical movements such as Bogomilism and Manichaeism, the Cathars rejected the bureaucracy of the Roman Catholic Church, and refused to worship in temples or cathedrals. The Church first tried to convert the Cathars without violence. When that didn't work, they initiated a full-force Crusade. The Cathars also believed that men and women were equal, in Cathar communities, women often held important religious positions. According to a conspiracy theory, the Cathars had copies of various texts sacred to them and not Catholicism, including The Book of the Two Principles, and the Gospel of the Secret Supper. These and other texts depicted Jesus teaching that reincarnation is real, that Heaven and Hell do not exist, that the God of the Old Testament was instead Satan, and Almighty God is either Jesus or his Father in Heaven, but not the Old Testament God. This is a central tenet of Gnosticism also.
