Default What ethnicities or groups of Europeans are the least European by DNA?

What groups of people in Europe plot the farthest from other Europeans? My best guess would be Sardinians or maybe Maltese.

It depends on what you mean but the ones that cluster furthest from the average European would be Maltese followed by Sicilians and s. Italians. There is genetic continuity throughout Europe though.

It's not your fault. They are genetically similar people. Differentiating between an Igbo and a Yoruba is as hard as differentiating between meds and Arabs.

And who is the core of the European in this case? What exactly is defined as European?

There are Russians and some other East Europeans that plot very far due to more East Asian components and some South Europeans plot more south because of less steppe ancestry compared to some of the ones in the North. That doesn't make them less European. Indo European people were the last of the 3 populations that are the ancestors of modern Europeans to even enter Europe. They came from Caucasus / Siberia area.

European and Europe are just geographical ters in reality and far from something homogenous. A modern political invention due to the common IE languages. They share some common ancestry through some ancient people like WHG, Neolithic and Yamnaya but these come in different % depending on the population. They also share some of the Indo European languages spread by Yamnaya. So populations will plot based on mostly the admixture of these 3 the most. It doesn't make anyone more or less European in reality.

Sardinians are genetically pre-Indo European for the most part which is why they plot different from say North Europeans who have much more Steppe admixture.

I'm sorry but that's just not true. Just to give you a comparison the most exotic Russian would likely still plot closer to the European average than the average Albanian. The average Russian plots a lot closer to the average European than the average s. Euro or Albanian
