Τhe EU has an agreement with the UN, and is bound by International law to accept refugees. The reason for this is because it wants to present itself to the world as a humanitarian union and not as a Europe fortress.

You say noone forces Greece and Italy to take in immigrants (which is totally innacurate) well in that case why does Dublin II exists? Nooone forces Italy to grant humanitarian visas either, in fact it is perfectly legal and within EU law.

People worried about human rights should also want as many of the economic migrants to return and human smugglers to fail as much as possible, because in the long run this might lead to extreme disaster.

If you shoot a few I bet the so called refugees would think twice before attempting making the trip. At the same time you could prevent thousands of them from becoming victims of the smugglers or endangering their lives in the sea.
