I'm surprised as I thought it would be simple in nations like Canada. I know it's simple in the UK for people to be referred by their GP for free smoking-cessation counselling and smoking-cessation devices to help wean people off nicotine. I personally bought my own NRT patches and inhalators by Nicorette, but I rarely use them now.
Nicotine is as addictive as heroin according to experts, and then there's also the hand-to-mouth habit too... so there's both the hand ritual habit and the addiction of nicotine.
I think that NRT patches and inhalators being prescribed for free on the NHS will save money in the long-term - compared to the cost of free treatments for lung cancer and other smoking-related illnesses on the NHS. (Although smokers already pay a lot of tax on cigarettes and tobacco that probably covers the costs of the long-term health treatments.)

They are under a somewhat similar program here, but I just didn't work for me at all, I grew up in small town america, everyone smoked I smoked for so long I tried everything the onlything that stopped it was a vaporizer, which I have been cutting down the nicotine content
Our taxes go similar, they heavily tax things that are harmful.

Same here... I tried patches and inhalators in the past and it didn't help, and the only way I defeated my smoking addiction was through vaping and now I no longer smoke.
I use the patches and my nicorette inhalator I bought only inside places where vaping is forbidden. I've also been gradually cutting down the amount of nicotine in the e-liquids I use on my range of vaping devices. I don't mind paying £15 for a box of patches that will last me for at least a month, considering that I used to pay more for a pouch of tobacco.)
I don't understand why some people continue to smoke in the 21st century, when they have all these modern devices available to help them and can vape instead and still satisfy their nicotine cravings and hand-to-mouth ritual.... without getting all the tar, smelly smoke, coughing, carbon monoxide, and all the other problems associated with smoking.... and at a fraction of the cost of cigarettes.
I've read cases of people who said they were heavy smokers who smoked something like 40 a day for over 20 years... and vaping on e-cigs was the only thing that helped them to quit the far more dangerous and expensive habit of smoking. Those ex-heavy smokers said on vaping fora that since they've become used to vaping, they no longer feel a desire to smoke anymore.
It's cleaner than smoking and there's a large range of e-liquid flavours available too.... from tobacco flavours, fruits, minty, etc. The e-cig devices look more elegant and stylish than old-fashioned analogue cigarettes, and they don't cause any teeth and nail staining, coughing, and smelly rooms full of stale cigarette smoke.
If heavy smokers can find it easy to quit by switching to vaping, then it gives a lot of encouragement and hope to lighter smoking-addicts who also want to quit.
People go through what's known as a 'switchover period'... where they start vaping, but still have the occasional cigarette whilst they're adjusting... but soon they're cutting down on the cigarettes, until they only feel to vape.
They start out on high nicotine levels of e-liquid and then gradually reduce the amount of months or years... without feeling under pressure. Vaping isn't as effective as delivering nicotine to the blood as smoking, so it's not as addictive and the nicotine cravings reduce over time. The cravings reduce and gets easier the longer someone goes without smoking.
People who can have the willpower to quit smoking for at least 3 months have the highest chances of long-term success according to experts.
The body goes through a week of detox symptoms when first making the switch and quitting smoking, (headaches and flu-like symptoms for a short period after quitting smoking, taste buds and sense of smell soon noticeably improves in the first week of quitting, and within 3 months the breathing improves.)
Some people said they've tried e-cigs but they didn't have a good vaping experience and returned to smoking. I believe that's because they didn't research and look around for the best devices.... and probably bought weak batteries, leaky tanks, gurgling in the tank, clearomisers spitting out hot liquid, etc.
The quality of a high-end vaping device, good coils, etc, (such as the V2 of JAC Vapour cig-a-likes for beginners, the Aspire Nautilus Premium Kit for intermediate vapers, Smok box mod kits for advanced vapers,) and using only high-quality e-liquids (such as Black Note e-liquids, JAC, Apollo, Vapemate, or V2 liquids) makes a load of difference, along with steeping the e-liquids to improve their flavour.
