Japan is an odd one here. On one side they're blatantly honest about selling sex aggressively in their advertising for instance, but on another side they are rather conservative also in the way their women dress.

I find it shocking on how individualistic Japanese society is. I mean, they are very weary and nationalistic against foreigners or "gaijen" where they all come together, but after that, they look at each other as total strangers even among friends and family. The fact that they find it shocking when they see foreigners greeting each other by hugging and etc just proves it. Anyway, the standard of beauty in Japanese society is indeed someone who is very White, tall and Nordic looking which is what the media keeps pumping up into them.

I said they are individualistic in their own society, but when it comes to nationalism, multiculturalism and etc, they all come together to fight against the ideals of liberalism and their enemies like the Koreans and the Chinese.

I've viewed Yuta, very interesting, he has a video about the two kind of "speak" they have in Japan, I forgot the name. The public "face" and the private face. The public face is basically lying to get along, but what is interesting is that the kind of private face is brutally honest. Like not holding back. The Japanese use example like saying "you're fat" directly to a friend. It seems to me, the Japanese are actually socially awkward. They do not have the middle road, which is what Westerners aim for. You know, we have the concept of "honesty with care/love", meaning we value honesty in people, but you have to be honest in a constructive and sensitive manner, right? It is a more sophisticated social model. Learning to deal with people saying honest things to you and then learning to say them in return without hurting someone's feelings. The Japanese have only "lying" or "brutally honest".

That's the envy they are expressing here imo, that you can be yourself and express yourself in public AND that they are able to deal with public loss of face. The two go together. The Japanese in public life largely avoid having their feelings hurt, but they also have more difficulty getting emotional needs met in public. Am I right? What is more interesting is that the Japanese reflect more on this than other Asian cultures. They are more introverted in that sense.
