Ross, you just have to be sensible and generally avoid dangerous situations. In a lot of the neighborhoods I'm in, it's pretty safe.

I was actually considering going to New Orleans but a news report about some tourists getting shot and killed there, made me set on Mexico City instead. lol

Mexico City has a very large array of excellent restaurants and food establishments. There are refined Mexican restaurants in the states, but the ones here feature dishes from various regions of Mexico that you will be hard pressed to find in the states. On top of that, the settings are often epic, many of the restaurants in the central city are located in grandiose buildings.

A lot of the crimes that target tourists are petty theft. The violent crime rate in Mexico is primarily concentrated along the border areas and are rival gangs killing each other. They logically won't go after an American tourist (they have way more money than a typical American tourist anyways) and bring unwanted crackdowns on their operations, that would just be stupid.
