    Default Athens' urban transit

First ever video that has described the mass transit system of Athens. Missed a few points, but very comprehensive. I actually contacted the creator of the channel to make this video and he delivered! And he did an excellent job

The London Underground could learn a thing or two from it indeed.

Listen... When it comes to train, bear in mind that most of the lines are brand new, especially compared to the London Underground. Lines 2 and 3 for example are 24 years old, not even a quarter of a century old. While London's youngest line is the Victoria Line, if we're strictly talking about the Tube, which was opened almost 70 years ago.

If we're bringing line 1 into the discussion, things are different. This line dates back to 1869, and the youngest rolling stock dates back from the 90s. And all of the trains are barraged by graffiti. Only the older trains that were brought by lines 2 and 3 are clean.

But for the underground lines, they're squeaky clean almost although they have some graffiti, that are cleaned relatively quickly however.

For the overground lines... London's network is much more extended and with much more frequent service. Athens has 200 km, with only 54 stations as of now. As mentioned in the video, it's the forgotten aspect of the network. Barely 1-2 scheduled trains per hour, which barely become 4 in the part of the network which is concentrating 2 suburban rail lines. But the trains are clean, and from what I personally noticed, more punctual. But they really have to actually purchase new trains to increase frequency. Passenger traffic especially in the rush hours of the other means of transport, especially of the metro, is too much. And the network is connected to an entire section of line 3, sharing platforms, and to the stations of Piraeus and Larissa Station (the Central Railway Station). And they do get a lot of passengers.

That's what I often say when comparing with other countries the rail network in London in particular, and to an extent Britain in general - it may be older, dirtier and less punctual but it is much more frequent and extensive. Btw, the newest Underground line is really the Jubilee line - the short spur from Oxford Circus to Charing Cross was replaced by the extension to Westminster/Waterloo/London Bridge/North Greenwich/Stratford during the late 90's.

Ah yes, I forgot the Jubilee Line.

As for the metro network, the Athens Metro is expanding and is already frequent (with the exception of Airport services).
