    Yes, they do.

This is from the PuntDNA-L K13 calculator with my samples. See the difference:

Yep, almost to Abruzzo. I'm surprised.

What surprised me also was the Cretan I put through came out there too. But the difference between Calabria and SE Sicily is fairly large there.

Whether Greeks in Calabria and Apulia descendants of ancient Greeks which are settled there in ancient period, or they come in the Middle Age in the period of Byzantine rule of southern Italy?

You would know if you have read the thread or the article. But the answer is both. There was constant Greek migration to the region.

There are some similarities with Tsakonian too, for example the word she uses for 'father' is 'dʑuri'. In Standard Modern Greek the equivalent would be 'ciris', roughly 'the lord of the house'. In Cretan it would be 'tɕiris'. In northern dialects it can be 'cirs'.

The Attic Greek word would have been kyrios (earlier kurios), the head of the household. (though I personally doubt there was no palatalization)

There is Greek ancestry there but obviously also other inputs (some MENA) and some people were Hellenized natives. All of these influences blended together.

The DNA will morph into something else. Some view the Greeks in diaspora as pretty good - I view them as self interested and selfish riding on the ponytails of the Greeks in Greece.

In other words if you don't fight for your Greekness it will morph into something alien other than Greek.

Good questions - but most be ancient due to conitnuum and long historical literature of Greeks in Magna Graecia.

Greeks assimilate very easily wherever they go and there was a bunch of Peloponnesians which settled in Calabria in 15th + 16th centuries
