Default In Which Countries Is This Male Name Heard?

The first name 'Nico' for a Meditteranean-looking male. Is that a Greek male name or an Italian first name for a man? Just curious.

According to this "Nico is a unisex given name and short form of Nicholas, Nicolas, Nicola, Nicole and others". It seems to be spread in a lot of countries (Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium...) not only in Italy.

In Italy Nico was the short form of Nicola, Latinised version of the Greek personal name Nikolaos. I think it was more common in the past, but not sure on this.

Almeno credo.

The origin to many names are Greek even though the form itself isn't Greek for those names such as my name it's an Italian version of a Greek name.

Where I live 'Nico' is a common nickname for Nicolas. But nowadays with all globalization and contact with so many different folks you can find this name everywhere, the most famous Nico who cames to my mind now is Nico Rosberg, a German–Finnish former Formula One racing driver.
