    • Cheshire used to include areas which now lie in Derbyshire, Manchester, Shropshire and Staffordshire. Halton, Wirral and Warrington have also been split off from Cheshire and now are only a part of it ceremonially
    • Cheshire used to be a semi-autonomous county palatinate
    • The Cheshire flag is blue with yellow straw bales representing farming
    • It has many industries and includes manufacturing plants for Rolls Royce aviation and Bentley
    • Manchester airport is actually near Wilmslow, Cheshire due to lack of space for it in Manchester
    • Cheshire lies mainly on the Cheshire Plain which forms part of the Midland gap between the Pennines and Welsh hills. It also has areas of the Pennines and the Wirral Peninsula.
    • Sand quarries are common in Cheshire, with former quarries usually being landscaped into country parks and fishing lakes.
    • Rock salt is mined in Cheshire for the UK's roads - the suffix "wich" is associated with salt mining towns such as Northwich, Nantwich and Middlewich, Northwich still produces salt. Despite the salt being mined here and in Northern Ireland it seems Cheshire doesn't get any prefferential treatment when it comes to gritters!
    • Cheshire is the Northern limit of many flora and fauna species and the Southern limit of others.
    • Part of Eastern Cheshire lies in the Peak District National Park.
    • It is considered a part of the Welsh Marches - the borderland between England and Wales.
    • It is also known as the "County of Chester".
    • Cheshire has more ponds than any other county in England due to high rainfall and underlying large areas of marl (clay). Many of the ponds resulted from small clay extraction pits and were latter filled in to provide water for cattle. Today they are recognised for their wildlife value and are a haven for insects, ducks, amphibians and birds. The ponds are usually surrounded by reeds and trees and form a small wetland.
    • Due to its abundance of ponds the Great Crested Newt is considered common in Cheshire which is at odds with most of Europe where it is endangered. Cheshire is considered a stronghold and they're pretty easy to see.
    • Hederows are still common in most of Cheshire, although some aren't always well maintained. These give way to dry-stone walls in areas such as the Pennine areas of Cheshire, Mow Cop and areas around Macclesfield.
    • Cheshire is traditionally agricultural but today houses many dormitory towns as well
    • Cheshire was once part of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Mercia and had two tribes - the Westernae and the Pecsaetan in the Pennines.
    • Cheshire has farmland, mudflat, riparian, woodland, heathland and moorland habitats as well as urban areas.

The growth rate of the economy of Abruzzo in 2006 has exceeded those of all the other regions of Italy (82% of growth)
The sectors of expansionism are: biofarmaceutic, nuclear physic, idroelectricity. Deposits of methane, aluminium and petroleum have been found recently. Tourism improved. Handcraft and factories in furnitures and the sector of chemstry remain strong.

The earthquake of 2009 caused big damages to the economy, but still data of 2010 say that the growth is already re-starting.

Oh no, there's plenty of woodlands and a few forests. The woodlands are widespread but quite broken up but there are at least 2 forests I can think of which are a good size.
The landscapes whilst nothing really extreme are diverse and the land productive, my favourite landscapes are the moorlands since they're such a sparse and barren landscape by English standards. Woodlands are nice too.

So how's Jamptland? Are you from there? It's mostly forested isn't it? I've seen some nice rock paintings in pictures from there and wasn't it once a republic and then part of Norway?

From the mid-nineteenth century, the shale and coal industries became of major importance to West Lothian. But after pioneering the global oil industry, West Lothian's shale industry fell victim to cheaper oil imports and closed down in 1962. The last deep coal mine in West Lothian - Polkemmet - closed in 1984-85
