Well.. if I remember correctly I once read about Mennonites from Germany, Switzerland and in some cases the Netherlands that went to the America's. But that must have been a very long time ago.

British paratroopers battling their way through Oosterbeek and Arnhem during the ill-fated Operation Market Garden (September 17, 1944 to September 25, 1944).

The bridge they tried to take was destroyed by aerial bombardments after the battle and the current bridge was opened in 1948. In 1977 the bridge was renamed into " John Frostbrug" after Major-General John Dutton Frost who commanded the troops that reached and tried to defend the bridge from the Germans during the battle.

My fiance's great grandma speaks the German-swiss dialect Dietch (I think that's what is called ^^ ? ) to this day and hardly speaks English. I was s bit surprised that some people have kept it that long

Soldiers of the Regiment Van Heutsz standing guard in front of Bronbeek House, a former royal palace and now a museum in Arnhem about Dutch East Indies colonial history as well as a home for elderly war veterans. The Regiment van Heutsz still maintains the traditions of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army and was named after former governor-general and KNIL-commander van Heutsz whose troops won the Aceh War. The hat worn by the soldiers is a tradition dating back to the days that the KNIL wore the same hats (during World War II and during the politionele acties). The Regiment van Heutsz also served with great distinction during the Korean War when it saw action fighting communists.

One of the soldiers still holds the traditional klewang, a Indonesian single-edged sword and weapon for close quarter combat that became the household weapon of the KNIL after the Aceh War.
