Taken along the Eem River (Utrecht province). The town of Amersfoort (amongst several other villages in the region) was named after the river: ford on the river Amer (one of the older names for the Eem).

Coastline of the state of São Paulo – Brazil

Well, yesterday I posted some pics of old villages that preserved the Portuguese colonial style, today I decided posting pics of modern cities along the coastline. The coastline, on the contrary of the countryside of the state, that has subtropical-to-slight temperature climate due to the high elevation (that’s why it’s called Brazilian Highlands), enjoys a quite stereotypical tropical climate.

That’s the main reason why many Paulistas “go down the mountain” as we say, to enjoy the pleasant climate and beautiful beaches of the coastline. Some important cities lie in the coastline, like Santos, that is the main port city of Brazil. It was through the Port of Santos that most of the Italian, German, Portuguese, Japanese immigrants arrived in the state of São Paulo.

But there are not only big cities on the coastline, it’s also possible to find small towns and great areas of preserved Atlantic Forest, what gives to the place a very charming vibe.

But… If you prefer to run away from the big cities, and enjoy the nature and paradise islands, you must go to the Northern Coast of São Paulo, where there are many small fishing villages and surfing beaches, like Maresias:











That's why I like São Paulo so much, at one time you can be on a charming mountain city enjoying the cold and hot chocolate, and on the other moment, travel to the coastline to enjoy the sun!

Celorico da Beira.
Celorico da Beira is a small town in the Estrela Mountains, this range was known in antiquity as Mons Herminius, homeland of Viriatus and the Lusitani.

"The current plant was erected in the Xth Century. This is a excellent defensive place used since, at least, the time of the first documented occupants of the region, the Turduli (500 BC) who were cousins of the powerful Lusitani and later by Romans and Goths. One legend attributes the founding of the town to Brigo (father of Achilles) in 2000 BC."
