My shoulder width was 21 1/2 inches. I have been told I have wide shoulders before, although I see them quite average.

How tall are you? Also how did you measure? It's important that another person takes the measure, because you have to let your arms hang down.

I see. That's a different measuring method. All the measures I posted are bideltoid, meaning the distance between the two broadest points of your shoulders (straight line).
